Katy Perry sings with Jodi DiPiazza
I’ve had a thing or two to say about Katy Perry over the years, but I’ve slowly come around to her since she divorced that heroin-skinny Brit and started to really claim herself with tunes like Wide Awake. Though most of her stuff was lackluster (albeit bouncy pop) before her divorce repertoire, Firework was that one song that you weren’t sure how to feel about. I once joked, “I hate the way Katy Perry oversimplifies things. In “Firework” she says, “After a hurricane comes a rainbow.” Actually, Katy, sometimes after a hurricane comes an oil spill.” And even though I did a parody of the song with the guys at Key of Awesome, I secretly also kind of loved it.
Well, now the scales have been tipped and I really love the song — and Katy Perry — based on this performance with 11-year-old Jodi DiPiazza, who was diagnosed autistic when she was 2. Katy and Jodi performed their duet on Comedy Central’s Night of Too Many Stars, which can be seen on Sunday, October 21 at 8 pm. Enjoy Jodi’s story and her big moment with Katy, then tune in Sunday and donate:
