If I closed by eyes, I could totally describe in detail the boxes used for the Girl Scout’s cookies, well at least my favorite – Thin Mints. But I won’t be seeing that box this upcoming cookie sales season. Not that I won’t be buying them, it’s just that they’ll have a brand new box. Yes, the Girl Scout’s cookie boxes will have a whole brand new look and it’s been a while. The last box redesign was in 1999.
The new look will highlight and illustrate five important skills, “goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics,” as the Associated Press reports. The boxes will show girls doing such activities as working in a park, doing some kayaking and speaking to other scouts.
“We have more than 50 million cookie customers across the country, and the cookie box is the most tangible and powerful way for us to communicate directly with consumers,” said Girl Scouts of the USA Chief Executive Anna Maria Chávez.
How did the Girl Scout’s communicate to the consumer in the past? Check out these vintage boxes from days of yore and see!

GroovyThis box is super groovy and really depicts a time (think late 60s early 70s).

The TinFor a while the Girl Scouts went with tin packages instead of cardboard. But the cool thing is you could use it as a bank when you were done.

Fresh FacedThere there were the boxes that just showed one girl, instead of many. But they each showed a different sort of girl from their race to their hobby.

Cute BoxThis one is so retro it just makes you wanna go bowling and wear a poodle skirt. Very design heavy with a adorable illustrated girl. And they were only 50 cents!

It’s About the CookiesThis one didn’t highlight the girls, but rather the cookies.

SimpleOne of the simplest (and oldest) boxes for Cooky Mints which I could only assume became thin mints.

Two ToneThis simple two tone design showed off the cookies and the girls, with the girls being represented by little illustrations on the sides of the boxes.
