Several friends have sent me this story, and I swear one of the outlets went with the headline, “Mother Teaches Kids to Shit Where They Eat,” but I think they’ve since changed it to something more tame. Too bad. Anyway, yes, it’s true — a mother in Utah actually set her kids up on their potty training seats tableside in the middle of a busy restaurant. I mean, I just don’t get it. Sure, complaints of diaper-changing in a dining room are somewhat founded, but if there’s nowhere else to handle a kid’s business and they’re just a tiny baby, you gotta do what you gotta discreetly do. But stripping your twin toddlers naked and setting them up on potty chairs while they eat in public? That’s a step too far.
The photo at left was snapped by Kimberly Decker, who posted it on her blog and then on Facebook. When the photo hit the social networking site it went viral and then was removed. Decker wrote, “While we sat down to have lunch, I noticed this young Mother was potty training her two twin daughters at the table. It didn’t quite register at first what was happening, but when I took a second glance I realized this is NOT OK!” The identity of the mother and children has not been revealed to the public, but she knows who she is! If you’re out there, lady, I just want to know how many other times you did this before someone said something! We all make mistakes, but man – if you don’t want your kids to breastfeed in a bathroom, don’t let your kids go to the bathroom in the dining area! Makes sense, right?
