1. Summer vacation with four small children under roof. Need I say more?

2. Being a stay-at-home-mom to four kids, yet working +20 hours a week from a home office.

3. And of course, a husband that although is lovely, works a ton and is rarely home to help with the four small children.

In short, I’m exhausted and the state of my house reflects my weariness.

So of course I welcomed with open arms my Mother-In-Law’s desire to come over for a few days to help me catch up on all the things that have built up over the past few months. One area of the house she’s been dying to get her purging paws on has always been my closet, but I’ve denied her privileges.

She thinks I have “too many” clothes, but she’s wrong.

Here is my completely valid reason for hoarding so many clothes:

If you peek into my closet, I have pants, tops, dresses and skirts in 5 different sizes. From size 12 to size 4, I have a outfit for that. And if we’re being specific, I also have a maternity wardrobe and stash of nursing tops. My body is constantly changing. Always in a state of either expanding or contracting.

I have a ton of clothes, and I need them because my body can never stay one size for long.

But my minimalist mother-in-law disagrees. A few tops, a pair of jeans, and an outfit for Sunday, that’s more than enough.

But I ask, what if I gain weight and need my size 12 pants? What if I miraculously get skinny and need my size 4 jean skirt? I understand that her 65 year old body has been the same size for the past 30 years, but that’s just not realistic for me right now.

And believe me, I wish I knew my body was going to stay consistently one size forever (especially if it’s one of the smaller sizes), but right now I just can’t count of that.

An overflowing closet it will be. And sorry, dear Mother-In-Law, I’m banning you from my wardrobe, because I’m just not ready to ship all the pieces that don’t fit me to the thrift shop, just yet.

How about you? Do you have a range of sizes in your closet?
