There was a tragedy in Hollywood over the weekend. Tony Scott, the director of such massive blockbusters as Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop II, True Romance and Crimson Tide has died.
At the age of 68, the younger brother of Ridley Scott (another big Hollywood director) took his own life in a very dramatic fashion. While all suicides are dramatic, Tony Scott’s life ending actions were making news before it was even revealed that the man in question was famous. What happened?
According to reports, Tony Scott jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge that spans from San Pedro and Terminal Island after climbing a 8-to-10 foot fence. Authorities stated that Scott jumped from the bridge”without hesitation” around 12:30 p.m on Sunday. According to U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Jennifer Osburn, there was a suicide note which was discovered inside Scott’s Toyota Prius that was parked on one of the lanes of the bridge.
After he jumped, the authorities did a big search and had to use sonar equipment in an attempt to find him in the dark waters. News reports began to emerge that a “man” had jumped from the bridge and that a search was underway. His body was pulled out by divers around 4:30 p.m.. On Sunday night the news spread that it was the fames director Tony Scott who had jumped.
He leaves behind his wife Donna W. Scott, an actress he met on the set of his film Days of Thunder, which starred Tom Cruise. He also leaves behind the couple’s 12-year-old twin boys named Frank and Max Scott.
