Yesterday we indulged in something that we’ve never done as a family of four. All of us hopped into the bed together late in the afternoon for a Jimeson family nap. That’s right, we were all napping at the same time!

It’s almost crazy for me to think about because it’s been so hard for me to nap during the day since I’ve had Avery. I usually take the time to get some work done or finish things around the apartment. Rarely do I take time out for myself to get some much needed rest.

Harlan and Avery just recently started napping on the same schedule in the afternoon, so it’s really a treat for me when they are both asleep and I can take full advantage of it. That means that I am writing, getting dinner ready, or cleaning up. That doesn’t mean I get to nap too (although I would love to on most days.)

I’m still recovering from my weekend at BlogHer and my husband is still recovering from having the girls for four days straight. With the lack of sleep getting the best of us, we decided to take advantage of our vacation time and take a nap with the girls. It was all four of us squished in a tiny double bed having quiet time together. It was worth every second of getting slapped in the face by my toddler in her sleep and being as still as possible next to Avery so that we wouldn’t wake her up.

As I awoke from my slumber, I found Avery awake next to me with the biggest smile on her face (see photo above.) She is usually napping in her crib, so this was a treat for her to get to sleep in the bed with us (as it was for Harlan too.) As both my husband and Harlan still slept next to us, Avery and I had such a fun time laying together and enjoying one another. It was a moment that I will always cherish.

As our family has grown to four, it’s rare that we get a chance to all be together without anything to do. So as soon as I saw the opportunity to do just that, I grabbed it and ran with it. And it was worth every second.

When was the last time you and your family indulged in a quiet afternoon together?
