According to Babycenter experts, doctors disagree on whether a daily vitamin is a good idea for all children. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says kids should only get vitamins if your kiddo’s doctor recommends one.
Maybe it’s the Type A in me, but I always give my kids a multivitamin. Just one. And I’ve been brand loyal to Flinstones Complete for years because it’s the only one I can find with iron, calcium and zinc — three things that my kids don’t get enough of.
The problem? My kids have turned on the Flinstones. They despise the Flinstones. While they once were in the same category as candy– Oooooh Mama, is it time for my vitamin yet? — the Flinstones are now on par with brussels sprouts and tuna casserole. Noooooooooooooo! I don’t WANNA eat my vitamin! In fact, my Kate has to down it in small pieces with juice so she won’t taste it. She makes gagging noises as if she’s dying a slow, tortuous death every morning.
I have read every kids vitamin label I can find in the grocery store, but none of them compare to Flinstones Complete. Hardly any have the zinc I’m looking for — and for us, that zinc is the key to surviving cold and flu season. Sure, all the Gummy vitamins are super-appealing, but while they’re high on taste, they’re all kinda skimpy in the actual vitamin department.
Stumped, I went to a nutritionist guru in our area. She gave me a $20-a-bottle cannister of “the best” children’s vitamins around. Unfortunately, she neglected to tell me I had to give them three times a day to get the full dose and maximum absorption. Three times a day? I can barely remember one.
There has to be a better solution, right?
