School starts in two weeks. I know this because it’s on my calendar. I also know it because my mailbox is flooded with brightly colored flyers advertising back-to-school sales (why, I want to know, is a pink fuzzy bean bag a back-to-school item?).
I wrote a post last year, when Maggie and Oliver were about to start kindergarten, about how I thought the whole back-to-school craze was just a marketing scam designed to part you with your money.
And I still basically think so. Except that Maggie needs a new jacket and at least one pair of pants. Both kids need lunch boxes and backpacks. Lucky for us, we don’t get supply lists from the school (every parent just gives $20 to the class at the beginning of the year and that covers it). There is definitely a trip to Target in my immediate future.
I figure I might spend a total of $100 on both kids. And I’ll try to do much of it online.
What about you? Do you like the back-to-school shopping? And how much will you spend?
