I can still remember over 6 years ago when I was in my 8th month of pregnancy with my first child. I was uncomfortable and felt huge (and since it was my first pregnancy, I felt like, bigger than big) and one morning when I could no longer button up my pants or bend over, I had no idea how a seatbelt was going to fit around me and that big belly.
I heard conflicting stories about safety of my not-yet-born child when it came to seat belt use. I heard that I should use the seatbelt, I heard that using the seatbelt could harm my child if we got into an accident and I heard there was a specific way I had to use it with a big belly. So, research I did (I take safety pretty seriously when it comes to my unborn baby) and came across a video that explains it perfectly):
The American Family Physicians also offers these tips:
- Air bags should not be turned off while you are pregnant
- If you are not driving, you should sit in the back seat where accident injuries are less serious
- Get seen by a doctor even if you don’t think you’re hurt
