We’re just back from the big 20-week ultrasound, but before I do the big gender reveal I have to back up to week 11. That’s right, we actually got our first glimpse of baby’s gender in the first trimester.
How does that happen, you ask?
We opted for genetic testing, which includes an early ultrasound. It’s not normal to be able to tell baby’s gender during this ultrasound, but just as our technician was uttering those exact words — We can’t really tell this early — she stopped short.
“Oh!” she exclaimed.
“Oh?” we echoed with worry.
“Oh my!” she continued.
Oh dear god, something is wrong, we thought.
But before we could speak she dropped the bomb. We hadn’t actually decided to find out the gender for sure — we didn’t with our second baby — but had no choice when we heard:
“Well, this is most certainly a boy!”
Silence.
And sure enough, we glanced up at the screen and saw two legs and one small but definite line in between. Jeff and I looked at each other and burst out laughing. “I guess we ARE finding out then!”
“How sure are you?” I asked.
“I’d bet on these odds,” the tech smiled. “But be sure to confirm at your 20-week before you paint the room!”
And so…today we confirmed. We are most definitely having a little mister.
(And you better believe I set up a Nursery board on Pinterest not 20 minutes later!)
It’s a BOY!!!! (And he looks perfect!)
