I interrupt this week’s “Design A Dream Nursery” series (you still have time to vote for your favorite glider for the nursery right here!) to bring y’all some fun news…. I’m officially in my third trimester!
The second trimester flew by at an incredible pace. Despite a bout with bronchitis (very scary to be sick while pregnant!) and some general “ahh-I-have-too-much-going-on-I’m-so-tiredness,” I have felt amazing over the last few months. I feel very blessed to have had such a great pregnancy so far. And for those of you out there whose pregnancy has been on the tough side… you’re my hero! Seriously, it will all be worth it when that sweet little bean of yours gets here
So far, the third trimester has been just as easy, although pretty exciting at times. I took my glucose test yesterday. That was fun. And by “fun,” I mean a tiny bottle filled with the world’s worst sugary fruit punch and about an hour of me trying to keep it down afterwards. Never. Touching. Fruit punch. Ever. Again. But I know it’s all for the good of the pea pod, so I made it through!
In case you’re wondering what’s going on in the above photo, David insists on doing the “awkward maternity heart over belly” pose every single time we take a picture these days. And I oblige. We’re cool like that.
What else has been going on? Oh! David and I have been blessed to have friends and family who will be throwing us a baby shower! Since the shower dates are quickly arriving, we have started registering at baby stores. Wow. Did you know there was so much baby gear to consider out there? This first-time parent didn’t!
David and I thought we’d be rock-stars and knock out the whole process on a leisurely trip to the baby store last Saturday afternoon. Let me tell you, pure hilarity followed. I’m pretty sure the employees of the store thought we were the most entertaining thing they’d ever seen! It took us, um, quite awhile to get through everything. We had a few recommendations for items from friends and family, but mostly winged our way through the gear. Which meant we closed down the store at 10 p.m. What? The baby store isn’t the hot spot on a Saturday night?
But here’s the funniest part. After all of that work- and trust me, we were so sure we had rocked that registry to its core- my sister-in-law called me yesterday and asked me about the registry. She said she had seen it, but was confused about some of the items on there. Were we sure we wanted pink polka-dot mittens for our new baby boy? Did we really need four breast pumps? And, most importantly, why did we think it was appropriate to buy our newborn son the “Hellboy” XBox game?
Of course, I’m on the other line, confused as heck. Pink? Four pumps equals eight boobs and I only have two, so I’m confused. And what’s a “Hellboy?” She gently explained that we had obviously errantly registered for a few items, including the XBox game. I mean, hello, people. We don’t even have an XBox! David and I laughed for hours at that one, no clue how that got on there!
Needless to say, I’m not sure my family will let me live that one down. The baby gear registering process, one of our first small ventures into parenting, has certainly been a fun, eye-opening experience!
Finally, I started the third trimester off in style with a vacation at the beach. For all of you preggo ladies out there… how are you handling your pregnant summer? Wearing a bathing suit while sporting a bump is definitely an interesting thing, especially for your first pregnancy! I’ve chosen to try my hardest not to be self-conscious and to rock my little maternity bathing suit the best I can. And you should do the same! You look adorable with your baby bump, I can promise you that.
Yes, I’m a crazy person who shares pictures of myself 6.5 months pregnant in a bathing suit. Why not?! Hopefully it inspires you to rock that baby bump bathing suit, too!
All in all, it’s been a wild ride so far. And I’ve loved every minute! I can’t wait to see what the next trimester holds… and even more importantly, I can’t wait to meet our baby boy! Come on, September!
So tell me, how is your pregnancy going so far?
