I never thought I’d say this, but I love to embarrass my daughter. The first few times she chastised me for some unknown offense I felt really bad. But these days its like shooting fish in a barrel. Not a day goes by that I don’t do something to make her squirm, roll her eyes or cry out “Oh Mooommm!!” Now I actually look for opportunities because I feel I need to get her ready for some of the truly embarrassing moments in life – like when your daughter throws up on the person next to you on the plane or takes a stage 5 temper tantrum in the middle of a busy street or informs a woman in the elevator that she smells bad.
Embarrassed? She has no idea. But below is a list of my offenses. I embarrass her when I…
1. Say hello to any boy in her class…or his mother
2. Sing along to the radio
3. Use anyones nick name – I called her friend Hadley ‘Haddles’ the other day and she nearly expired from humiliation
4. Take hip hop classes from the same teacher she does
5. Tell her teacher she is having trouble with the math homework (apparently that was supposed to be “between us” and not something she wanted the teacher to know…huh?)
6. Argue with anyone in public
7. Bust out my go to karaoke song “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-lot (okay, she might be right about that one)
8. Have an opinion
9. Wear anything she deems “too cool for a mom to wear”
10. Swear (yes, I sometimes swear in front of my children. I don’t know how to drive without cursing)
So there it is. My 10 offenses that send her off the rails. I only wish there were more!
