I am in the midst of a massive renovation project before I move my family of five into a new (OLD) house. We are very excited and happy (and nervous and stressed) about all the changes. Sometimes, I feel like I’m in the middle of a “If you give a mouse a cookie” storybook with all the moving parts and contingencies like so:
If you replace all the nasty old electrical work, you’ll need to add nice new electricity to go with it. If you have all new electricity, you’ll need to buy all new lights. Once you patch all the big gaping holes, you’ll need to paint all the walls. If you paint all the walls, you’ll need to choose new paint colors.
But before you choose all new paint colors, you (apparently, according to the experts), you need to choose RUGS. So in order to make my house all nice and cozy instead of hard-woody, I’m trying to pick fabulous rugs that I will want for the whole rest of my life before I even live in the house. Help!
Here are seven fun rugs I found to play on!
Monkeys rug is modern, subtle and funny. I only wonder if the joke would get old before my sons do.
The flyover rug is also hilarious to me. The pattern is funky and in muted tones while subconsciously encouraging us to get on a plane.
Gumballs, AKA “Lego-loser” rug, has such cheerful bright colors that make me smile. Recommended for 3 and up. So maybe this one’s not for me.
This pink floral would be adorable in someone else’s house. My sons have a LOVE / HATE relationship with this color. Sigh.
The gray one is neutral without being boring and natural without all that floral business. Plus, you won’t lose your LEGOs in it. But is it any fun?
With kids aged 7 months through 7 years, I can now see that the car-truck-digger obsession was just a phase, but this contemporary transport rug makes me nostalgic.
All that said, can you really go wrong with stripes, right?
Will someone just hold me now? I have to go choose lights, colors, and rugs for the rest of the house.
