Do you ever feel like it’s all just moving too fast?
You may be reminded of that when you see this remarkable video by Dutch filmmaker and father Frans Hofmeester, who has managed to capture an entire childhood in just 2 1/2 minutes. In a project that must have taken incredible dedication, not to mention patience, Frans filmed his daughter Lotte every single week from the time she was born until she turned 12 years old and then edited and compiled the clips into a time-lapse video titled, “A Portrait of Lotte.”
We first see Lotte as a baby, staring wide-eyed into the camera – crying, yawning, spitting up. By the time the clips end a couple of minutes later she’s on the verge of becoming a teenager. What comes in between is the story of a little girl growing up: Hair in pigtails, a gap-toothed grin, a whole personality developing as she tells her dad stories we can’t even hear.
Watching this, I had that old parenting mantra running through my head: The days are long, but the years are short. This video is such an incredible time capsule for Lotte and her dad, and a good reminder to the rest of us that even though the hours can stretch on, childhood really is so fleeting.
