Our neighbors invited us over for cocktails next weekend. It is after Raffi’s bedtime, and it seems silly to get a sitter just to go next door. There is this program you can get where you use your iPhone and another device (such as an iPad) as a baby monitor. It allows you to go anywhere and still have access to the monitor.
Is it wrong to set that up and go next door?
Here are my reasons why it’s ok:
1- If we lived in a mansion we would still be at home. The neighbor’s house is literally connected to ours as we live in connected town homes.
2- The likelihood of Raffi waking up that early into his nighttime sleep is low.
3- We could be at his room in less than 2 minutes if he did wake up.
4- It’s no further than the mailbox, which I go to all the time while he is napping.
5- We’d still be monitoring him just like at home, only we are a few extra feet away.
Why I think it’s not ok:
1- It just doesn’t feel right.
2- We would technically be out of our own home.
We’ve decided to do it, and if we don’t feel comfortable we will leave. I decided I don’t think it’s any different than going to the mailbox, and since we’ll be able to hear him the whole time, we will know if he wakes up and can get back home in less than 2 minutes.
What do you think? Is leaving your child at home and monitoring from your neigbor’s house ok or not?
