Miss E. is almost a year old and has eight teeth. EIGHT! I have friends with kids older than her who are still waiting on their first one. Not us.
While it makes for a super cute smile, it also hurts. Why? Because home girl has become a biter. She chews on everything and lately that includes her mother. My pants and shirts are constantly wet with baby slobber and she bites whereever she lands — my shoulder, chest, leg, arm. She’s not picky.
I’m a bit at a loss of what to do. For now, I’ve been yelling “ow” (completely involuntary since it hurts like a mug!) and tapping her on the teeth while saying “NO bite” in a stern voice. It’s not like she’s old enough for time out.
Some have suggested giving her a teething ring or a cold washcloth when she bites. I also had someone tell me to walk away after she bites me, so she learns if she does it then she doesn’t get my attention.
The experts here at BabyCenter also say similar things, including making sure no one (even siblings) laugh when it happens. (Believe me, I am NOT laughing.)
My son never bit me (well, at this age anyway; he started at 18 months but that’s another post.) So this is new territory.
Have ya’ll experienced anything similar? What did you do?
